VAPT Cost in India: What Drives the Price?

There is no single price for VAPT. Two quotes for "a web application VAPT" can differ a lot because they describe different amounts of work. The useful question is not "how much does VAPT cost?" but "what is included for that price?".

- How many tester-days are planned, and how much of that is manual testing?
- Which methodology is followed, for example the OWASP Testing Guide, OWASP MASVS for mobile, or PTES?
- Which user roles and API endpoints are in scope?
- Is a retest included, and within what time window?
- Can we see a sample report, with sensitive data removed?
- Who will do the testing, and what certifications do they hold?
- If your regulator or customer requires a CERT-In empanelled auditor, is the provider empanelled?
Ways to keep VAPT cost under control
- Share documentation and test credentials early, so testers spend time testing rather than discovering.
- Test in a stable staging environment that mirrors production.
- Bundle related assets, for example a web app and its API, into one engagement.
- Fix critical findings quickly so they can be closed in the included retest.
- Combine continuous scanning with periodic manual VAPT rather than relying on one big annual test.
