Best SIEM for Indian SMEs: How to Choose in 2026
By the Invield security team · Updated 7 October 2026
A SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) system collects logs from your servers, cloud, endpoints and applications, correlates them and alerts you to attacks. For a small or mid-sized Indian business, the "best" SIEM is the one your team can actually run, that keeps you compliant, and whose cost stays predictable as log volumes grow.
This guide sets out the criteria that matter in India, compares the main types of SIEM, and explains when a managed SIEM or managed SOC is the better choice.
Key points
- CERT-In's 2022 directions require logs to be kept for 180 days within India and incidents to be reported within 6 hours. Your SIEM setup should make both easy.
- Watch the pricing model. Many SIEMs charge by data ingested, which can grow quickly.
- A SIEM is only useful if someone watches the alerts 24/7. Most SMEs do better with a managed SOC than a tool alone.

What an Indian SME should look for
- CERT-In readiness: 180-day log retention in India, clock sync to NTP servers of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) or the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), and fast evidence export for 6-hour incident reporting.
- Data residency: if logs contain personal data, check where they are stored and processed, and how that fits your DPDP Act obligations.
- Predictable cost: understand whether you pay per GB ingested, per event, per device or per user, and what happens when volumes spike.
- Out-of-the-box coverage: ready connectors for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AWS, Azure, firewalls and endpoint tools, plus detection rules mapped to MITRE ATT&CK.
- Ease of operation: a small team needs good default rules, low noise and simple investigation, not months of tuning.
- Response: built-in or integrated automation (SOAR) to contain threats quickly, with a human approving risky actions.
- Compliance reporting: reports for ISO 27001, SOC 2, RBI, SEBI CSCRF and DPDP audits.
- People: who monitors alerts at night and on weekends?
SIEM options compared
There is no single best product for every SME. These are the main types of option, with well-known examples. Check current pricing and features with each vendor.
| Option | Examples | Good fit when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open-source SIEM / XDR | Wazuh, Elastic Security (free tier) | You have in-house engineers and want low licence cost | You carry the hosting, tuning, upgrades and 24/7 monitoring yourself |
| Cloud-native SIEM | Microsoft Sentinel, Google Security Operations | You are already standardised on Azure or Google Cloud | Ingestion-based pricing; you still need people to triage alerts |
| Enterprise SIEM | Splunk Enterprise Security, IBM QRadar | Large log volumes and a dedicated security team | Licence and skills cost are usually high for an SME |
| Managed SIEM + SOC | Managed security providers, including Invield | You want outcomes (alerts handled 24/7) rather than a tool to run | Check SLAs, escalation process and who owns your data |
| AI-assisted SIEM | Invield AI SIEM and others | A small team needs faster investigation and less noise | Make sure a human approves response actions and you can audit the AI's work |
SIEM tool or managed SOC?
A SIEM tool on its own does not stop attacks. Someone has to review alerts, investigate and respond, around the clock. Building an in-house 24/7 SOC needs several analysts to cover shifts, which is out of reach for most SMEs.
A managed SOC (sometimes called SOC-as-a-service or MDR) combines the SIEM with a team that monitors it for you. For most Indian SMEs, a managed SOC on a modern SIEM is the most practical way to meet CERT-In timelines and customer security requirements.
Shortlisting checklist
- List your log sources and estimate daily log volume.
- Confirm where logs will be stored and for how long (at least 180 days in India).
- Ask for pricing based on your actual volume, including growth and retention.
- Run a proof of concept on your own data for two to four weeks.
- Measure alert noise: how many alerts per day, and how many were real?
- Confirm who responds at 2 a.m. and how fast.
- Check the compliance reports you need are available.
